You can get a subsidy for a heat pump

The Czech government supports replacing old heating systems with heat pumps. The main programme — Nová zelená úsporám (New Green Savings) — has had its intake of new applications temporarily suspended since January 2026. Kotlíkové dotace (Boiler Subsidies) for lower-income households remain available.

New applications for NZU are temporarily suspended

Since January 2026, no new applications can be submitted to the Nová zelená úsporám programme. The allocated funds have been exhausted and the programme is transitioning between funding rounds. Previously submitted applications continue to be processed. Acceptance is expected to resume during 2026 once additional financing from the Modernisation Fund and EU emission allowance revenues is secured.

Nová zelená úsporám (New Green Savings)

Current status (January 2026)

Intake of new applications is suspended. The programme has exhausted its budget and is transitioning between subsidy periods. Applications submitted during the previous round continue to be approved and paid out.

In 2026, the programme is expected to continue in a new form — shifting to financing from EU emission allowances and the Modernisation Fund, with a greater emphasis on bank guarantees and loan mechanisms instead of direct grants.

Subsidy amounts (currently valid limits)

Despite the suspension of new applications, the following limits for family houses remain in effect:

  • Air-to-water (heating only): approx. 75 000 CZK
  • Air-to-water (heating + DHW): approx. 90 000 CZK
  • Ground-to-water / water-to-water: 110 000 — 130 000 CZK
  • Lower-income households: up to 150 000 CZK

For apartment buildings

  • Apartment building owners
  • Homeowner associations (SVJ)
  • Housing cooperatives

Kotlíkové dotace (Boiler Subsidies)

For lower-income households. Replacement of an old manually-fed solid-fuel boiler with a heat pump.

Conditions:

  • Existing solid-fuel boiler with manual stoking
  • Household income does not exceed the set limit

Subsidy amount:

  • Up to 95 % of eligible costs
  • Maximum 180 000 CZK

Subsidies in the Ostrava region

Enhanced subsidy amounts are available in the Moravian-Silesian Region:

  • Air-to-water: 94 500 CZK
  • Ground-to-water: 130 000 CZK

These amounts can be combined with other programmes. Specific conditions vary by location and building type.

Old heat pump trade-in programme

Do you have an older heat pump and are considering a replacement? HOTJET offers a trade-in at residual value when you purchase a new unit. Modern inverter-driven heat pumps are 30—50 % more efficient than models that are 10—15 years old.

What comes after 2029

Under current EU legislation, the sale of standalone gas boilers will end after 2029. Hybrid systems (heat pump + gas boiler) will remain permitted. Investing in a heat pump is therefore an investment in the future — and with a subsidy, the sooner you start, the better.
